In the summer of 2013, following my brother's wedding in San Francisco, I hitched a ride to Bodega Bay to visit some friends who were working on a multimedia theater piece in a community art space in a town with no cell service. All 12 or so people who were working on the piece were living together in a rented beach house and sleeping on whatever surface they could find. I seem to remember sleeping in a closet. The performance included songs, the melodies of which were some of the most mournful and ethereal I've ever heard.
Shortly thereafter, Asa - the director of the theater piece and the songwriter - asked me if I'd be willing to contribute some guitar playing to performances and recordings of these songs. We began work, and in January of 2014 we travelled to Akin Studios - located in an old armory in Hoosick Falls, New York - to record these natural-reverb drenched elegies.
Over a year later, the recordings, website, film, and cassette tape that are all part of this hugely ambitious project are finally completed and ready for release. We're playing a show and having a huge party to celebrate. Come to Red Hook, dream of California, and listen to us sing.
