The Ben Seretan Group's first ever show at the Silent Barn...
When I listen to Toebow play music I am reminded that, yes, real friendship and little hip-shaking dance moves can in fact mend hearts, end dark clouds of frowns, and rend apart the cosmos. Dueling guitars, chunky low end, and a drum machine made of christmas lights.
SKINNY BONES (MA)
When I listen to Skinny Bones play music I feel cared for, that someone is showing me very generously the woodgrain in the paneling of their attic, that sound and dance beats are a gift. Two fellas turning morning acoustic pop demos into gritty late night jimmy jammers.
BEN SERETAN GROUP (BROOKLYN)
When I listen to the Ben Seretan Group play music I'm reminded of an old tradition in my family - running out into the street at midnight on new year's and banging on pots and pans and screaming until the double boiler's dented and the neighbors scream back. Big songs, big buddies, big guitars, big drums, big smiles.
When I listen to Andrei Rublev play music, I realize that all the busses and the subways that pass me all day are full of actual human beings, each with their own hard skeletons. They remind me of my favorite parts of Don Caballero, but like those favorite parts were left out in the wet sun of a forest and are now covered in mushrooms.
